Iron 0505 in Meteorology Research

New research in snowfall tracking utilized KAYA Instruments’ Iron 0505 as a high-speed, high-resolution vision solution.

In research to be presented at the 2025 International Conference on Multiphase Flows, researchers from ETH Zurich Institute of Fluid Dynamics in Zurich, Switzerland developed a novel field-imaging system for tracking snowfall over large volumes, a task requiring super-resolution and high speed imaging. To achieve this, researchers developed an array using 16 Iron 0505 cameras to monitor snowflake clustering in 10 cubic meter volumes.  Boasting a 150fps frame rate and 5120 (H) x 5120 (V) resolution, KAYA Instruments’ Iron 0505 offered an elegant solution for developing a protocol capable of tracking the spatial patterns of small snowflakes in large, dark environments.

KAYA Instruments is pleased to be an integral part of this important meteorological research. We manufacture high speed cameras ideal for research,  offering the precision and durability necessary to collect data in harsh environments. We look forward to continuing to provide researchers with cutting edge vision technologies to optimize scientific pursuits worldwide.
