KAYA Instruments adopts NVIDIA Clara AGX Developer Kit to Develop AI-Enabled Medical Instruments

KAYA Instruments, a leading global provider of high-speed cameras, acquisition systems, and video interfaces, has adopted the NVIDIA Clara AGX developer kit to create and deliver real-time AI in medical devices. The NVIDIA Clara AGX helps to securely provision and remotely manage fleets of distributed medical instruments.

Today, KAYA Instruments professional PCIe cards for CoaXPress and Cameralink frame grabbers are officially supported in NVIDIA Clara AGX, allowing customers to connect to electron microscopes and confocal microscopes used in medical and life science imaging. This helps with real time processing and precise on- hand inspection.

Komodo II 4CH CoaXPress 12G is a best in class Frame Grabber supporting CoaXPress v2.0 standard and is certified by the Japan Industrial Imaging Association (JIIA). The Komodo II can receive video streams from up to 4 CoaXPress links in single, dual, or quad modes. It is used for simultaneous capture from up to two quad link cameras. Each link supports standard CoaXPress bitrates up to 12.5 Gbps including 13W PoCXP.

The Komodo II fiber is a high-performance Camera Link HS Frame Grabber supporting CLHS X Protocol (10G) standard. The Komodo-CLHS can receive video streams using four SFP+ 10Gbps transceivers and a single QSFP+ 40Gbps optical interface. Each link supports standard X Protocol bitrates up to 10 Gbps. The board offers a flexible DDR3 memory system with up to 144 Gb of memory and 128 Gbps throughput. A high speed 8 lane Gen 3.0 PCI express interface allows fast data transfer between optical links and computer memory.

The Komodo II CoaXPress over Fiber is a high-performance Frame Grabber supporting the CoaXPress v2.0 (12.5G) standard. The Komodo II can receive video streams using four CXP v2.0 12.5Gbps optical transceivers interfaces. The board offers a flexible DDR4 memory system and up to 50 Gbps through optical interfaces. A high speed 8 lane Gen 3.0 PCI express interface allows fast data transfer between optical links and computer memory. A GPIO connector enables machine control signals such as triggers, timers, shaft-encoders, exposure-control and general I/O along with video stream acquisition.

With the expeditious technology development of the medical industry, processing data and computation time is expanding rapidly due to many factors such as increasingly complex treatment planning, the increasing sophistication of MRI pulse sequences, and the growing complexity of algorithms. The graphics processing unit (GPU) addresses these problems plus creates new possibilities for use in the field such as for high computation throughput, high memory bandwidth, support for floating-point arithmetic.

KAYA Instruments adopts NVIDIA Clara AGX Developer Kit to Develop AI-Enabled Medical Instruments

The NVIDIA Clara AGX developer kit is an embedded AI platform for medical devices that advances the development of software-defined instruments, such as microscopes, ultrasounds and endoscopes. NVIDIA Clara AGX is accelerating the development of these new medical instruments by providing a universal platform that can deliver high-bandwidth signal processing, accelerated computing reconstruction, AI processing and advanced 3D visualization.

KAYA Instruments’ video acquisition cards work well with NVIDIA GPUs. The Komodo II Fiber cards transfer video right to the NVIDIA GPUs for fast real-time processing and decision making, utilizing the power of parallel processing. Parallel processing is very important if lots of memory is needed or the tasks are built to run in a parallel fashion.

KAYA Instrument’s cards are in many medical instruments today such as in robotic arms, microscopes, endoscopes, and many others.

To continue the collaboration in the future, KAYA Instruments have recently joined NVIDIA Inception, an acceleration platform for AI, data science and HPC startups, go-to-market expertise, and technology support.
